EDITOR'S NOTE: This is one in a series of testimonies on the power of the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy. To share your own testimony, please e-mail us at info@thedivinemercy.org.

The following letter was forwarded to us from the Disciples of Divine Mercy in the Holy Face of Jesus, based in Buffalo, N.Y. This testimony — a "thank you" letter to the Disciples — shows how God is doing many good things through this ministry.

I just want to thank you all for bringing me and my husband and daughter and the painful situation into the presence of Jesus. God has heard your prayers and shown His great mercy towards me. During this last week, where I remained in complete silence together with your prayer support, God moved, and the Holy Spirit [moved in my husband] and revealed itself to me, too. Beside that, the power of God intervened, and as we prayed, the Holy Spirit showed my husband the ugly side of himself and brought him to his knees in deep repentance before God. The most amazing miracle was when he suddenly started calling me the last four days and pleading for forgiveness, acknowledging his selfishness and evil ways.

I couldn't believe a man so proud and arrogant like him was almost crying and begging me to come with him to church, saying he wants to go before the Holy Cross and ask forgiveness from God for the evil things he did to me and to be given the grace to treat me better.

To be honest, it was hard for me to talk to him, and I found it hard to forgive him, and I told him so. But my 10-year-old daughter challenged me, saying, "Ma, God will be very angry with you if you don't forgive Dad, because you prayed he will repent, now God has answered your prayer, but you refuse to do what God wants. Ma, don't preach your Holy Gospels to me,if you can't forgive Dad, because you are not a good example to me if you can't forgive him, so how can I learn to forgive?"

So there you are ... I had no chance with my 10-year-old daughter. God spoke to me, too, through her, and so I took strength and courage and the three of us went on Sunday morning to [a Catholic shrine] about 100 kilometers away from where we live.

My husband embraced my daughter and me at the foot of the Cross and begged forgiveness from God and me. I have never seen him like this. Praise the Lord.

While I thank you all, and beg the Lord to protect you all, I ask you to continue to pray that our family will serve the Lord, and that my husband will be given the grace to be delivered from his hot temper and desire for alcohol. I know your powerful prayer support brought him to his knees in repentance. In the same way, please help me with your prayers to set him free from drinking and a hot temper.

Thank you so much. I will be grateful to you all my life.

Because of a multiplicity of health issues personally and those of my husband, I have lost my prayer time. Your testimony dear sister is encouraging that God does answer prayers and that when we think He is far away, He is near. God bless you.

We are all so gratified to hear of the miracles in your life. Please forgive your husband as other alternatives can only poison your dear soul. I would also strongly, strongly advise "Alcoholics Anonymous" for your husband, as their approach is 100% based on spirituality and the daily surrendering to the will of God. Thousands have been healed through this approach, which most interestingly, was profoundly affected by Catholic spirituality in its founding. It is not Catholic in its terms now, as they must minister to people of all faiths or even those with no faith. But at the heart of their action is Catholic philosophy that gently urges all of us to turn each day, one at a time, over to the care and Lordship of God. Your husband's genuine interest in his return to the Church and sacraments, and the nearly daily care of others like him who have found peace in surrendering each day to the Lord through "AA" are graces that can and will change your lives. If it is difficult to forgive him, think about opening wide your arms like Jesus on the Cross and join His suffering. This will be a powerful invitation to Jesus into your lives. There will still be up days and down days, triumphs and difficulties, but with the endless graces of Divine Mercy (say the Chaplet often) and your husband's contrition, matched with the spiritual approach of "AA" and your family's regular return to the Sacraments and the Church, there is power there to fundamentally and forever change lives. My personal proof for the existence of God comes from many places, but none more profound that seeing this happen in people's lives, especially when at its foundation, it has the Church and the Sacraments and the understanding of God's unlimited mercy through the revelations made to Saint Sister Faustina. Take heart and take action and don't shy away from the great successes made by millions through the "AA" program. Their "big book" is a simple, straightforward story of how many, many people--most of whom were considered "lost causes" by their families and doctors--have found Redemption and success. The Church and Sacraments will only "supercharge" what you and your family and husband can do through "AA". Jesus is waiting and planning a triumph and happiness for your family. You will have to fight for it through acceptance of His way but He will never abandon you. You and your husband and family will be in our prayers. Be of good cheer and move forward, dearest heart!
