Lent 2010: Into Jerusalem

The following is the seventh in a series of Lenten reflections, written as a dialogue between the Lord and the soul. These reflections are inspired by the Diary of St. Faustina and Scripture.

Lord, here we are, about to enter Jerusalem.

"Yes, My friend."

The crowds are already gathering to welcome You into the city. But Lord, aren't those people who're shouting "Hosanna to the Son of David!" the same people who will, in a few days time, shout "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!" Those smiling faces are the same faces that will distort in anger as they revile You on Friday. And they that enter the city by Your side will soon abandon You. And yet You still go to them. Why, Lord?

"Because I love them. My Heart is heavy within Me. Will you come with Me, little one? Will you stay beside Me? Together with Me, will you face a crowd that you know will betray you? And later, will you stand up for Me when they accuse you of being My friend? Will you stay with Me during My final agony, My abandonment on the Cross? Will you keep Me company on the road to come, dear friend?"

Oh, Lord. You have never had a smaller or weaker friend than me. Without You I can do nothing. But my little heart, Lord, longs to be with You always, to console You with its every beat. In my weakness, hold my hand, guide me through the crowds. And Lord, when You are ripped from me, do not let me fail You, but send me Your Mother, that she may lead me to You, to the foot of Your Cross.
