Today, Let's Pray For ...

... a newfound resolve to evangelize through social media.

The Holy Father today urged Catholics to embrace social networking as a means to spread the faith. He said social networking — such as Facebook — has the power to "reinforce the bonds of unity between individuals and effectively promote the harmony of the human family."

He said, "Believers are increasingly aware that, unless the Good News is made known also in the digital world, it may be absent in the experience of many people for whom [social networks are] important. The ability to employ the new languages is required not just to keep up with the times, but precisely in order to enable the infinite richness of the Gospel to find forms of expression capable of reaching the hearts and minds of all."

Aware of the moral dangers inherent in the free-flow of communication on the Internet, the Holy Father cautioned that digital forms of evangelization must be used "in a wise and balanced way."

Pope Benedict's message was delivered on this, the feast of St Francis of Sales, patron saint of writers.

By the way, Pope Benedict's nine Twitter profiles have attracted more than 2.5 million followers.
