Let's Pray for Our Country

With the November elections coming upon us, one woman in Wisconsin has begun a prayer initiative calling on everyone to join in a Eucharistic Divine Mercy Holy Hour for the United States.

"One day, I found in my papers I had stored away a newsletter from the L'Osservatore Romano entitled, 'Divine Mercy: Our Only Hope!'" recalled Judy Hankel, who leads a Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy cenacle in the Milwaukee area. "Although it was dated April 2, 2008, it resonated with me that Divine Mercy may be our only hope. With prayer, all things are possible. But we must pray! We need to pray for the end of abortion and euthanasia, and all sins of the flesh. We need to pray for religious freedom in the U.S. and throughout the world."

The prayers she includes in the downloadable Holy Hour program include the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy, the Rosary, the Litany of the Saints, and the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, among others.

A downloadable pamphlet containing the prayers is available here. Please note that it should be printed on legal-size paper (8-1-2 x 14, two pages, two sides).

"The initiative," said Judy, "was truly God's Divine Mercy. It really came about through prayer, especially the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy; Mass; Eucharistic Adoration; and inspiration from the Holy Spirit. We read about the graces poured down on us by the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Right now, we really need to pray for the United States as we head into the November elections."

Voters on Nov. 6 will be choosing the next president, as well as members of the U.S. Congress and state and local officials.

"In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the second Holy Hour is scheduled for next week," Judy said, "and I hope it will spread throughout the diocese!"

"I prayed that this Holy Hour would be available to everyone in the U.S. to download so that all churches, prayer groups, and individuals can just print it out to pray for our country. We need to pray now. We need to make sacrifices, fast, and pray. In other words, we need to make reparation for our sins and to pray for mercy."

Judy recalled a passage from 2 Chronicles 7:14 that seems fitting for the moment: "If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

"I hope," said Judy, "that this Holy Hour will be used by many throughout the country. It is not my work, but God's. May God's will be done."

Again, a downloadable pamphlet containing the prayers is available here. Please note that it should be printed on legal-size paper (8-1-2 x 14, two pages, two sides).
