Thank You!

The 18th Annual Slice of Heaven Charity Golf Classic took place at the Berkshire Hills Country Club on Sept. 9. Organizer Ed Miller had a few words of appreciation for everyone who made the event possible and turned out to play:

The "Slice of Heaven" charity golf committee is very grateful for the continued and outstanding support provided by our loyal supporters and friends.

This year we welcomed and embraced our new partner, the Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity (CBHFH) community. The alliance with the Catholic Youth Center-Pittsfield (CYC), now in its sixth year, has continued to grow.

This year, we honored Berkshire Bank for its generous support to our community through funding and volunteers.

There was a record number of participating golfers - 129 - and the funds raised were close to $36,000, also a record.

2014 marked 18 consecutive years of Slice, which is remarkable for its longevity during several uncertain economic periods. There are many golf outings; some prosper, but many do not. The Marian Fathers are proud of their commitment to the Berkshire community, and the support of two outstanding partners.

Slice embarked on a new direction in 2009 and has raised very close to $200,000 in these six years. This money has helped educate young men for the priesthood, aided programs for youth, and contributed to improving the lives of those seeking shelter.

The committee takes satisfaction that in addition to financial success the golf outing has provided a platform for greater visibility of the mission of the three sponsors.

Golf provides a humbling challenge of its own, but the associated raffles and golf contests have contributed significantly to the financial success of Slice. A summary of the primary activities is:

The 50/50 Raffle winner was Arthur McCormack. He won $310.00.

The sporting events raffle raised in excess of $5,000; close to a 40% improvement from the prior year. The lucky winner of tickets to the Patriots-Jets games was Jenn Cesca. The winner of the Red Sox tickets was Leslie Curley.

The Team Low Score was achieved by the Lindenmeyr team led by Tom Basile. His team shared $500.00. Tom and his company have been Slice participants for many years. Congratulations to Tom and his team for their success on the golf course and thanks for their loyalty for many years.

Slice would not be viable without leadership from the three participating charities. The contributions of CYC board members Tom Hamel and Gail Molari were significant. The enthusiasm and support of Carolyn Valli, director for CBHFH, and her associate Susan Slattery was appreciated.

In 2015 Slice will be held on Sept. 14, again at the Berkshire Hills Country Club. This represents the return to the established date of the second Monday in September.

We very much look forward to seeing all of you back next year. Very simply, we strive to make Slice "your golf outing of choice."
