'He's Carrying Me'

My introduction to Divine Mercy was a gift from our Blessed Mother. One morning, a traveling businessman came by the office of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where I served as receptionist. He handed me a framed 8-by-10-inch Divine Mercy Image, complete with a Divine Mercy medal inside the glass, which he said had been blessed by the pope. He said, “The Blessed Mother told me to give this to you.” That was Aug. 15, 2017, which had added significance. On that day 50 years earlier, my late husband and I were married. We had chosen that day because it was the Feast of Our Lady of the Snows, for whom I had a special love.

I was stunned and felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. I did not know much about Divine Mercy at the time. Later, a deacon at our parish gave me The Second Greatest Story Ever Told by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC. I devoured it! I thought, “Everybody needs to know about Divine Mercy!”

With passionate thanksgiving, I promised our Lord that I was going to share Divine Mercy with everybody I could. I penned the following note:

Though all that is good is being assaulted on every side, our God has brought to His people the gift of His Divine Mercy with a renewed understanding and with a renewed urgency. He even gave us the prayers with which we can, and should, reach out to Him with confidence in this age.

Those notes, along with a copy of Divine Mercy Explained, also by Fr. Michael Gaitley, went out to 80 of my relatives and friends.
My next mission was getting the message to prisons, but I wasn’t sure how to accomplish this. I just trusted Jesus. Weeks later, I met a prison minister who came to the parish where I was attending Mass one Sunday. The pandemic got in the way for a while, but I was able to give out 40 Divine Mercy booklets to a women’s prison.

One morning during the COVID-19 lockdown, I realized while praying, “Lord, this is one reason You came as Divine Mercy: You’ve been training us to trust only You! You knew this virus and turmoil was coming and that we would need to know how to trust in You alone.”

When we’re in a close relationship with the Lord, we can change for the better. I once heard in my heart, “When you pray with My Heart, My might and love are unleashed.” I had been wondering if I’d ever visit the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, but He refocused me by saying, “The Cross is the real shrine of My mercy.” He enlarges our capacity to know His incredible love.

When I was feeling sad for those who are unable to know Him, He very gently said, “There are some souls that I carry.” Through all this, I’ve come to realize that He’s carrying me. Whatever is next, Jesus, I trust in You!

A gaze of the heart. Examining the depth of one’s heart.

Jesus said, "Today bring to Me ALL MANKIND, ESPECIALLY ALL SINNERS, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. In this way you will console Me in the bitter grief into which the loss of souls plunges Me."

Yes, we all get busy sometimes. With the Divine Mercy Novena under way March 29 - April 6, this certainly bears looking into.
