Marians Need Your Help to Complete New
Mother of Mercy Outdoor Shrine

We finished the first phase of construction on the Mother of Mercy Outdoor Shrine in time for our Divine Mercy Sunday celebration in March. It involved finishing the basic structure.

During this phase, we encountered some challenges that increased the total cost of the project from $1.3 to $1.7 million. These challenges included increases in the cost of fuel and materials for construction and our decision to dig a deeper foundation, so we could utilize the lower level of the outdoor shrine in serving our pilgrims.

Now, within a year, our plan is to complete the Mother of Mercy Outdoor Shrine, provided we have sufficient funding. Then, in a further phase next year, we hope to complete the Shrine of the Holy Innocents, which will be on the lower level.

The Mother of Mercy Outdoor Shrine is located on the southern slope of Eden Hill, facing the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy. The alignment of the two sacred buildings signifies their unity in purpose: the Son and His mother seeking to bring the good news of God's limitless mercy to mankind.

"To see this project move from concept to actuality is exciting," says Br. Donald Schaefer, MIC, Treasurer of the Marians' Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy Province, based in Stockbridge, Mass. "This building will be a vehicle for mercy. Beyond bricks and mortar, we will see a shrine dedicated to the propagation of God's mercy."

"Fundraising is our biggest challenge," Br. Donald says. "To construct a building like this is not an inexpensive proposition. It will only happen if enough people continue to commit themselves to this project."
