Turn to any page of the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska and you find spiritual gems. Like this one:

Do not change your particular examen which I have given you through Father Andrasz; namely, that you unite yourself with Me continually. That is what I am clearly asking of you today. Be a child toward My representatives, because I borrow their lips to speak to you, so that you will have no doubts about anything" (1544).

God does not want us to doubt Him. He does everything He can, while respecting our free will, to lead us to have no doubt — to trust completely in His will.

Because of the Fall, we have trouble discerning what He asks of us. Maybe we're too bound by sin to hear His voice. Or perhaps we follow the teachings of the Church, but deep down we just feel like we're not holy enough for the Lord to speak to us.

The truth is, God is speaking constantly to each and every one of us in the most ordinary ways. Listening, though, is not altogether passive. Our capacity to discern the Lord's will in our lives begins with our willingness to hear His voice. But we have to live prayerfully aware of His presence, or else we will miss what He's saying. Just as a child cannot develop a relationship with his or her parent without spending time with each other, we cannot develop a relationship with God unless we remain in a state of grace and take time away from our world every day to place ourselves in His presence.

The Lord can speak to us in the silence of our heart. He also speaks to us through Scripture, both at Mass and in private prayer. He speaks to us through one another, and in daily situations and events. He often speaks most plainly to us, though, through His representatives on earth — His priests and religious. In fact, even though the Lord Himself often appeared to St. Faustina, He chose to continue to speak to her through her priests.

All of us are in a constant spiritual battle. Trusted spiritual advisors and confessors can help us differentiate the voice of God from the voice of the evil one. God wants to lead you in faith and help you to continually grow in His truth. With the help of God's representatives, we can learn to listen to Him better and obey Him more. Then we'll come to a greater awareness of how constantly His mercy is pouring out upon us.

Jesus says to us: I speak to you every day, through Scripture, throughout the Mass, in your spiritual reading, in the silence of your heart, and through your spiritual advisors and confessors. Come to Me often in prayer and remain close to Me in your heart and mind throughout the day, and I will give you everything you need when you need it.

My prayer: Jesus, sometimes I let myself get too distracted by the things of the world, I forget to pay attention to You, and I miss out on your blessings. I'm not perfect, but I know that You are, and I know You love me, and I know that as long as I keep turning my eyes back to You, You will take care of everything.
