The ‘Father of Scholasticism’: St. Anselm of Canterbury

Hailed as the “Augustine of the Middle Ages” and the “Father of Scholasticism,” St. Anselm of Canterbury, Bishop and Doctor of the Church (feast day, April 21) is considered the foremost theologian of his age. He is famous for saying, “For I do not seek to understand in order that I may believe, but I believe in order to understand.”
