Good Queen Mary

Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. - Lk 1:31-33

Mary is the Queen of Heaven and the Universe. Why? Because Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Think about what that means. God (who is self-sacrificing Love) has set Mary (who is most holy) over all other creatures. The universe, which can seem so often cruel and cold, is ultimately governed by Love and the Beloved, by the Bridegroom and the Virgin Mother, by Jesus and Mary.

Why can that reign seem so distant, so theoretical? Because God almighty and His Mother have bound themselves to respect free will. Sometimes, we say yes, let them in, and the world is made a better place. Sometimes, sanctity breaks out, and "the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the good news proclaimed to them." (Lk 7:22) When we acknowledge their reign, when we give ourselves over to them in obedience and love, then the kingdom of heaven is allowed in. Then history ceases to be a tragedy and begins to be more obviously a love affair.

For the reign of Jesus and Mary is a gentle and a generous one, leaving a lot of room for the sinner to repent and the saint to suffer alongside the Redeemer and His Mother for the salvation of the world (see Col 1:24). Mary restrains the arm of the just judge so that all her children might have the fullest chance to come home, to repent and be saved.

So hasten the full manifestation of the reign of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts! Accept the gentle yoke of Jesus through Mary by consecrating yourself to the Mother of God. Console the Heart of Jesus by suffering alongside Him, carrying your cross out of love for God and neighbor. Learn to unite your sacrifices to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and do the work of Jesus and Mary through the works of mercy.

Long live King Jesus! Long live Queen Mary! Long will they reign!
