'You Comfort and Heal'

Jesus, Friend of a lonely heart, You are my haven, You are my peace. You are my salvation, You are my serenity in moments of struggle and amidst an ocean of doubts. You are the bright ray that lights up the path of my life. You are everything to a lonely soul. You understand the soul even though it remains silent. You know our weaknesses, and like a good physician, You comfort and heal, sparing us sufferings - expert that You are.
- Diary of St. Faustina, 247

Wow, it's true, Christ is our Friend! This isn't wishful thinking. He tells us so. "I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father" (Jn 15:15).

We need to remind ourselves: Christ isn't some inaccessible emperor protected behind a fortress. He's what you'd call today a "regular guy," our friend.

What is friendship? It is a cooperative and supportive relationship. It is a defined by mutual respect, affection, and trust. Christ fits the bill perfectly. He believes in us. He encourages us. He is forgiving when we falter. He loves our company. He wants to be with us. He wants to listen. He wants to talk. He is our peace and our haven.

Our Friend is calling.
