Highlights from Day 1, July 17

Day 2: Thursday, July 18, 2024

Saint John the Evangelist Church, across the street from the Indiana Convention Center, hosts the Perpetual Adoration Chapel during the Eucharistic Congress.
The Indiana Convention Center is teeming with pilgrims. Excitement is building!
Sister Maria Fatima Nunes from Ann Arbor, Michigan, points delegates in the right direction: the Sacrament of Reconciliation!
Sister Dalva of the Risen Jesus, BJC, originally from Brazil, traveled from her convent in Kansas City, Kansas. "Divine Mercy is so profound," she said. "For me it means a daily encounter with God's grace. We recognize our identity in the Lord, when we feel forgiven and loved. Trust in the Lord always!"
Martyna Muraskaite and Vitalija Daugirdaite journeyed all the way from Vilnius, Lithuania (site of the 2026 World Apostolic Congress on Mercy) to participate in the National Eucharistic Congress. "Divine Mercy means everything to us," Vitalija said. "Once we began praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet, miracles started to happen!"

Martyna noted how the message of Divine Mercy came late to Lithuania due to the Soviet Union. "We didn't know about Divine Mercy for a long time, while all the rest of the world knew," she said. "I try to promote the message of Divine Mercy to all of my friends."

Elaine Barker of Haverhill, Massachusetts brought vintage prayer cards of the Marian Fathers (below). "I got these in grammar school in the late 1940s and I kept them," she said. "I have a big Divine Mercy Image in my bedroom, and I look at it every morning. I just feel the presence of His hands on my shoulders, supporting me always. And I'm 87 years old!"
Acclaimed Marian Press author Peggy Stanton visited the booth today to sign copies of her two books, From the White House to the White Cross: Confessions of a TV News Correspondent and The Order of Malta Minutes with the Catechism: A Pocket Guide to the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Father Stephen Castellano, MIC, who was ordained to the priesthood last May, offers a blessing to a Congress pilgrim.
Father Andy Davy, MIC, prays with Congress participants.
"Ask a Marian Seminarian" anything at our booth in Expo Hall – and Br. Ruben Veloz, MIC, was more than up to the challenge!
James Albright of Brookfield, Wisconsin, was hoping to see his uncle, Fr. Thaddaeus Lancton, MIC!
Father Sojan Xavier, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church in St. Albans, West Virginia, has seen a growth in popularity of Divine Mercy. "We have Eucharistic Adoration on Fridays and pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet," he said. "The message is spreading."

Father Sojan is originally from India, where Divine Mercy is very popular. "We have a youth movement called 'Jesus Youth,' and they are constantly praying the Chaplet," he said.

That's a wrap for today! More tomorrow!
