Worried? Spread the Message of Mercy

By Marc Massery

Turn to any page of St. Faustina's Diary, and you'll find spiritual gems. Like this one:

Souls who spread the honor of My mercy I shield through their entire lives as a tender mother her infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the Merciful Savior. At that last hour, a soul has nothing with which to defend itself except My mercy. Happy is the soul that during its lifetime immersed itself in the Fountain of Mercy, because justice will have no hold on it. (1075)

Are you afraid of God’s justice?

God is all holy and all powerful. He knows every sin you and I have ever and will ever commit, and at the end of time, He intends to judge us. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says:

Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heaven through a purification or immediately, or immediate and everlasting damnation (1022).

But I have good news. If you spread the Divine Mercy message, God promises He won’t be a judge for you at the end of time. Instead, He’ll be your Merciful Savior.

What a relief! But that’s not all. If you tell others about God’s mercy, He will shield you "as a tender mother her infant" throughout your life. This means that He can use anything bad that has happened in your life, even if it happened years ago, for good. This means that you can live your life without fear of the future.

It’s hard to imagine that the Creator of the universe wants to care for us so diligently and tenderly. But that’s how much God loves when you spread the Divine Mercy message — He will go to any length to protect you and care for you.

So, don’t spend time in despair, worrying about your own salvation. Hand out Divine Mercy prayer cards, buy a copy of St. Faustina’s Diary for a friend, pray a Divine Mercy Chaplet for someone sick or dying, or hang a Divine Mercy Image on your door.

As Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, the director of the Association of Marian Helpers, often says, “God cannot be outdone in generosity.” The more you give to God, the more you will get. So, spread the Divine Mercy message any way you can! Then you’ll have nothing to fear, in this life or the next.

If all Marian devotion culminates in imitation of Mary, says Br. Jacob, MIC, then we could also say that all imitation of Mary culminates in imitating her standing at the foot of the Cross.

The Resurrection reveals that Jesus has the power to crush all the stones of our imperfections, taking away all that blinds us to His presence in our daily lives. He desires, in Holy Communion, to come and remove every hard stone from your heart.

Jesus said, "Today bring to Me ALL MANKIND, ESPECIALLY ALL SINNERS, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. In this way you will console Me in the bitter grief into which the loss of souls plunges Me."
