Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him." - Lk 9:35
In two of today's readings, God goes to extreme lengths in revealing His plans.
The Lord reveals to Abram that he would become the father of many, and he would possess a great expanse of land. Just to make sure Abram gets the message, the Lord makes a covenant with him. A smoking fire pot and flaming torch pass between the split carcasses to signal the formation of a covenant.
Christ's Transfiguration shows Peter, John, and James a glimpse of the glory He would receive after His Resurrection. It would be an encouragement to His disciples to suffer for Him. They also would be bolstered against any doubts by the words they heard from Heaven:
Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him" (Lk 9:7).
At that time, the disciples didn't grasp that Jesus would have to suffer and die before His glorious Resurrection. Philippians explains for us that, even though we are in this world now, we are always citizens of Heaven. It doesn't behoove us to be preoccupied with earthly things. Our future includes a glorified body. When we look to the future, we don't need to fear. God has a plan for us. Trust in Him.
Prayer: Lord, You know what I need. Help prepare me for my future on earth and in Heaven.
